What I Learned From the MBTI

What I Learned From the MBTI Honestly, I have taken many different kinds of personality tests (including the MBTI) in my career and the results are always consistent. I find pretty much everything that they have said accurate for who I know myself to be. I have had others that know me well and even work colleagues read through my results and they agree with them, for the most part.  At first these tests would get me a little upset, and I would try to "fix" things that I thought might be negative in the assessment. After a few times, I realized that I can't really "fix" anything that this test is telling me. It is generic and concentrated on the deepest roots of my personality. It is..."Who I Am"! Granted I am not this person all of the time. When the raw data is considered, I am pretty well balanced. Given the situation though, you will find more of one attribute coming out than another. I think this is how everyone would be. Generally though, I...

Reflections on Week 1

Quick Reflections on Week 1 +/- This class seems less structured than my previous classes + I like the layout of the slides - I get an overall disconnected feeling with this class      It may be beneficial to connect the dots from week to week - maybe a summary slide? - I am still finding it very difficult to work to a Friday deadline - and still find it disturbing that no due dates are listed. - I don't like having no comments from the professor or my classmates on posts.      Would it be possible to share blog addresses with the class so review and feedback could be given. Not sure if this is within the scope of the class or not. - I know blackboard can be frustrating, but how will we receive grades for work if none of it is "turned in"?      It might be a good idea to do touch bases on a somewhat regular basis so grading and expectations are clear. + I like having posts in the blog format. I think that using this is unconv...

The Most Pressing KM Problem I Have (Right Now)

The Most Pressing KM Problem I Have  - Right Now There are so many frustrating problems that I have experienced that I would love to tackle. For example, I have encountered in many companies the hoarding of information by subject matter experts. Often I find that this is a culture change that has to happen so that people do not feel that hoarding of information is a way to create job security. Another problem that I have encountered is the lack of sponsorship by the executive staff. I often find that mixed messages are sent to the employees in that they are to prioritize KM activities but will no support is given to them in the way of time or resources.  Unfortunately, I was recently laid off from my current position. Do to this, I would say that my most pressing KM problem is to get companies to understand what KM actually is and what it can do for their company. It is simply hard to find KM related jobs, and even when there are postings, I find that they do not under...

Why Am I Here - as it relates to course 60303 ;)

Why Am I Here? A Deeply Un-Philosophical Answer to the Question. The simplest answer I could give to this question is I am here (taking this course) because it is required for the completion of my Masters Degree in Knowledge Management. How I got to this point might be a little more interesting.  I started down a path in the Life Sciences receiving a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Westminster College. I was going to be a doctor. I was going to help people. I completed all my studies, did several internships, and even took the MCAT. Then life happened and after getting married and moving to Ohio, I realized that I might need to focus on bringing money in to help with bills instead of paying money out to continue my education.  I stayed in my field and I have had a very successful career working my way up through Corporate America in the Quality Assurance discipline. I have done everything from execute testing scripts to manage global teams and I love what...
